This  little village in Kalimpong hides a beautiful  river canyon that you would  just want to meander  through. Is it a  short  trek?  Well, yes it is a 3 day trek that just fits perfectly in your weekend. Is this a  thrilling  trek? Hell  yeah !! Trust us, you have never seen anything like the canyon. And  if you can’t swim, fear not,  there are life  vests to  help  you through  those portions  of the  trek which has deep water in it. By the way, did we tell you the river bed is a heaven for those who love to photograph birds and butterflies? Well , now you know.

Please note : Double vaccine certificate  or in case of single of vaccine or no vaccine, RT-PCR / TrueNat Negative Test Certificate, not older than 72 hours prior to your entry in our program is mandatory in all our programs, starting from 24/04/21.

ITINERARY
 
  • Day 1: We meet at  NJP railway station  around  9.30 am and  after a hearty  breakfast,  board chartered vehicles and  reach Yelbong. Lunch at the homestay in Yelbong. Trek down to Ramti river bed to our campsite.Group activities  follow after you reach there. Campfire  in the evening.
  • Day2: Early morning hike through the canyon and  back to campsite. Post lunch we trek to Rainbow waterfall. Evening adda and fun sessions.
  • Day3:Today you hike along a beautiful river bed trail. Leave campsite post lunch.We  drop  you  at NJP railway station around 7 pm.
                 
THINGS TO TAKE
For  the trek you  will  need the following  items :
  • A one litre capacity water bottle or a hydration pack.
  • A Hand/Head Torch (preferable) with spare batteries.
  • UV protection Sunglasses.
  • Mask
  • Spray sanitiser /hand  sanitiser
  • A small dry bag  to keep  your belongings dry inside the canyon ( Volume 20ltrs approx)
  • Comfortable loose fitting track pants/leggings/shorts/three quarter pants (two of them. Jeans are not recommended)
  • Full sleeve tee shirt or shirt (3)
  • Thermals both lower and upper ( only for November batches)
  • 2 pairs of regular socks and two pairs of woollen socks
  • Quick dry towel or gamchha : 1
  • Fleece jacket- 1.
  • Windcheater -1.
  • Raincheater -1 OR poncho-1
  • Undergarments - as required
  • Woollen cap - 1.
  • Sun cap or Biker Scarf for protection from sun- 1.
  • Extra set of clothes for return journey .
  • Sturdy sneakers  1 pair.
  • Hiking boots : 1 pair
  • Lightweight kitos/hiking sandals: 1 pair.
  • Big, fluffy towel : 1 ( only for November batch )
  • Sunscreen lotion, lip balm, toothbrush, toothpaste,  toilet roll, baby wipes, cold cream, soap paper strips.
  • Petroleum jelly ( only for November batches)
  • 2-3 zip pouches to dispose of non-biodegradable waste
  • Camera (optional).
  • Personal medicines, if any.
  • Though we carry fully equipped first-aid kits, it is always a good idea to have your personal first aid kit.
  • Emergency food like dry fruits, energy bars etc.
  • ORS sachet : 2/3
Please do not bring frilly, fancy, lacy clothes. Carry regular tracks and regular tees only.

  • Who can go? Anyone  of age 10 years and above
  • What kind of food will be available? Vegetarian/Eggatarian/Non vegetarian (chicken dishes). Just let us know your preferences.
  • Are you giving us a pick up from NJP to Yelbong? We will give the participants a scheduled time at which our transport will pick you up from NJP railway station and take you to Yelbong. In case you fail to board the transport we can arrange a vehicle, at an additional cost, to pick you up from the railway station. You can pay the transport cost to the driver of the vehicle directly.
  • In case we choose to travel with you in the same train, can you book train tickets for us? Soma's Camps is an adventure outfit. We usually do not do ticket reservations in either trains or flights. However, in case of minors who  travel without parents and  women who are not comfortable travelling  alone, we can help you with ticket reservation in trains only, provided of course we receive the train fare and a mail from you at least 125 days before the date of the program.
  • Which is the nearest railway station? New Jalpaiguri .
  • Which is the nearest airport? Bagdogra
  • What  is  the  length of the trek? 12  kms approx in three days.
  • Can I do  the trek even  if I don't know swimming? Of course you  can. Major length of the route is walkable.  Only  in one  or two  spots  the  depth of the water is  between 8 to 10  feet.  We provide life vests to  non swimmers.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
 
  1. Cancellations will be subject to cancellation charges.
  2. Cancellations will have to be intimated to Soma's Camps by email only.
  3. 30% of the total trip fee is not refundable on cancellation at any point of time.If you fail to pay your trip fee( in case of part payments) within the scheduled date and ignore repeated intimations, your registration maybe cancelled and the booking amount forfeited.
  4. Cancellation between 40 to 22 days prior to departure date : 50% of the trip fee will be refunded.
  5. Cancellation between 21 and 11 days prior to departure date : 30% of the trip fee will be refunded.
  6. Cancellations made from 10 days to the day of departure or no showup: no refund.
  7. Cancellation by Soma's Camps in the unforeseen eventualities of riots, political or industrial unrest like Railway operators strike, Airlines strike, it may be necessary to cancel the tour in the best interests of our clients. In such an eventuality our clients will be informed as soon as possible. The trip fee paid by the clients will be refunded in full  OR we will provide you with an alternate set of program dates.
  8. Cancellation by Soma's Camps in the unforeseen eventualities of pandemic, epidemic,any other long term natural or  biological disaster or man-made,   disasters like war and  others, it may be necessary to cancel the tour in the best interests of our clients. In such an eventuality our clients will be informed as soon as possible. 70 % of the  trip  fee paid by the clients will be refunded.
  9. If a particiant tests positive in the RTPCR test within the window of 72 hours of prior to joining our program she/he will have to mail the report to somascamps@gmail.com . The traveller will receive a  voucher, by mail, from our side which he/she can use within one year, in any other trip/program.
  Other Terms  & Conditions
  • Payment: Payment for the trek can be done online through credit/debit card or net banking or NEFT or by account payee cheques.
  • Non-liability: Soma's Camps is not responsible for any loss/damage of your gears/equipment or other belongings on the trek.
  • Regarding proper disposal of non bio-degradable waste:At Soma's Camps, we to prefer to leave nothing other than footprints behind. Kindly help us to maintain that by taking care of your non bio-degradable wastes.
  • Drinking and smoking during the trek is strictly prohibited. If found flouting the rules, your participation on the trek will be cancelled with immediate effect. Please understand we will not accept  any negotiation  or debate on alcohol consumption.
  • Emergency during the trip: If for any reason you  have to leave  the  trip midway, Soma's Camps can make arrangements for your return to the  nearest rail head/airport. In such a case pay the trip  facilitator the amount  of the transport before you start for the railhead/airport.
  • Please understand when we say 'trip fee' in  reference  to  refunds, we mean the full amount not partial payment.
  • Program may get modified/cancelled in case of inclement weather.
  • Cost escalation during  the trip, due to change in itinerary owing  to natural reasons or unforeseen conditions like Landslides , Road Blockage, Bad Weather, Social or Political Unrest, Strikes, sudden shut down of any govt office etc, will  have  to  be borne by the participant.
